Walking band Track of the Day on 3Nov2009 in Americana Brilliant!!! This a band I would want to see live. Great performance by all and its sounds like a lot of fun to play. No criticisms, it is very polished. Thank you for cheering me up on a miserable day. - JohnPeart from London, United Kingdom on 6Jan2010 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Bass, Production, Lyrics, Melody, Beat, Mood, Best Feel Good Track. Fun tune Mandolin lead in is very nice. I like when the rest of the instruments jump in. Lyrics are good but a few rhymes seemed forced like "all the clowns, follow the dotted lines?" The refrain "Follow me up, all the way up, to the Mountain Top" could be improved by adding another line instead repeating 4 times. Nice catchy tune. A fun listen. - gabbyhazeband from Fishersville, Virginia on 29Dec2009 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Mood. lol nice beginning//i like country very much.but..if you want to be original you must search for some hint some unique sound - efremovnikolay from Kiyiv, Ukraine on 2Dec2009 Extra Credit: Mood, Best Potential Movie Soundtrack. Celticana? It's a bit difficult to catch alot of the lyrics, what I could decipher was fun. Lead singer does not bring anybody to mind, which is a good thing, and he's got plenty of power. This reminds me of "The Band" on speed ,with what sounds to me like a definite Celtic influence. I like the nice dry vocal and the melody is not remarkable, but likeable. - joeymccall from Manorcunningham, Donegal, Ireland on 29Nov2009 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Beat, Mood, Best Feel Good Track. Banjoline Marchin' Band, Bro! Roger and the Rockets blast off again! Sweden's own Americana superstar, Roger Haggstrom, is back with his Sgt. Pepper opus, "Walking Band". We are all happily marching down the street with Roger and his marching band as he strums us a merry ol' tune on his trademark banjoline. Roger is a hookmeister - slap at my forehead, ah, it's all the chorus, stupid! Start there and then develop the verse! BRILLIANT! Very much like the fab four in approach but more American than you, Jack. On his new project, Roger has enlisted pro's pros to help him out - but hey, his old band was really fantastic too - and well documented on his garageband page. This is as tight as it gets. Roger does whatever it takes to make his stuff shine. You all should take note. This is a musician who loves his craft. And I love hic craft too! - AndrewKowal from Southampton, Massachusetts on 25Nov2009 Extra Credit: Guitars, Production, Melody, Beat, Mood, Best Feel Good Track. Romp There is not much on this arm of the milky way that could invoke in me even the shadow of an urge to to do a little square dancing - but this song surely does. Great instrumentation. It really sounds like a festival of players, everybody putting their whole souls into it. The energy is moving. Vocals are well sung. Some of the words get a little slurred at times but they are usually perfectly comprehensible. Lyrics fit the mood precisely, everything working together for these pied pipers to induce us all to follow them. My compliments to the group for their tightness and musicality. This song was a lot of fun to listen to. - AnniceJoslin from Erie, Pennsylvania on 24Nov2009 Extra Credit: Guitars, Mood. cleaning windows very lively engaging melody this isn't my kind of genera but i like the lyrics it isn't unique but it is refreshing. sound like the worzels george formby, shakin stevens - sifter76 from Chester, Cheshire, United Kingdom on 24Nov2009 Classic Americana Beautifully realized americana track with infectious beat and perfectly realized vintage grand 'ol opry melody. Band is recorded bright and production pops. Lead singer aptly suited for this genre and song. Well Done. - steven_fedrick from Mansfield, Texas on 23Nov2009 Extra Credit: Production. Is there really such a thing as a banjoline? What sounds like ukelele/banjo to my ear strums some rhythmic chords to get this song started off. The kick drum sets in and the song is off on its fun marching, merry way. The singer has an almost-Aussie tilt to his Dylan's-hyper-cousin voice that just makes it sound like he's having nothing but fun the entire time. And I felt that from every aspect of the song--fun was being had, and it was hard not to tap my toe and follow this group up to the mountain top. I was fully engaged when verse two started at about 130 and ready to join in the parade, maybe chance a little harmony. But then again, the band had that covered, as harmonies were dispersed in perfect places throughout. They weren't over the top or the point, but just enough to spruce up the vocals to make it feel like a singalong. The lyrics moved fast and seemed to sort of be the master of ceremonies for this marching menagerie of madmen who aren't mad at all but rather blissful. When I figured out the line "I'll keep the rhythm on the banjoline" I was completely sold, as I figured that was why this group chose to start out with the banjoline strum sound. It just made sense and it made the song that much stronger. I have to say I wouldn't normally go in for a song like this, as its just a little too something billy for my taste, a little too boot stompin or scootin, bluegrassish, or whatever, but this set in and took hold and hooked my pulse to its driving beat. I'm not usually a gushing reviewer, and am in fact often quite harsh, (check my other reviews if you don't believe me) but I can't find a bad word to say about it. OK, wait, let me think, there was a line in the first verse that wasn't close enough to a rhyme to jibe for me, let me find it, though maybe its right and I'm wrong (not an unusual occurrance). "All the judges all the clowns, please follow the dotted line" was the lyric in question, but it really doesn't matter much as it was the only hitch in a nicely flowing lyrical romp. The guitar breaks were nicely played and had a pretty wicked telecaster tone, and had me wondering what sort of amp he was riffing through. As to who this sounds like, I'm really not sure, as I can't say I listen to this sort of music much, but for me it sounded like some bootstomping bluegrass fun, and whoever does that and does it well, well, then that's who you sound like. I enjoyed it, and I'm sure your audiences do as well. Good luck. - PyrrhicVictory from Erie, Pennsylvania on 22Nov2009 Extra Credit: Melody, Mood. wicked opening! OH yeah I really like this song! Great bluegrass sound. Melody is fun and the chorus is a great sing song chorus, found myself singing along by the end. You sound like a electric version of Old Crow Medicine show and my friends band the wild turkeys. Good job! - dianacatherinemusic from Canada on 22Nov2009 Get dancing! this song is perfect for a new step dance. Definitly great country rock. The intro is different and it works! Arrangement is good! Lyrics are great. Sounds like hill billy! - Jackie_O_Grady from Berlin, Portugal on 21Nov2009 Extra Credit: Lyrics, Beat, Mood, Originality, Best Feel Good Track. Feelgood Country by way of Ireland Really cute, happy, feelgood song! Reminds me of BR549 and Trent Summar. Great production, and infectious smiles! - AlanHughes from Colorado Springs, Colorado on 20Nov2009 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Drums, Bass. Good hook This song is pure american folk, the banjo in the intro is the presentation card. Excellent production and perfectly played instruments and voices. Good hook. Congratulations. - Mrzurdillo from Málaga, Spain on 18Nov2009 Extra Credit: Production. an amazing piece of americana music i like the banjo intro. i really like the violin and drums. i love the atmosphere of the music, it kind of makes me want to dance to this music. i like the lyrics too. i like the melody of the music. - estellebelle1 from Frome, United Kingdom on 15Nov2009 yes! That makes me happy, right off the bat..this is definatley a best feel good track. I dig everything I'm hearing here. This is very very nice. Great production, vocals, arrangement, fiddle, mandolin, melody...man this is just really great. I hope you get 5 stars like this one deserves. I want more. - stereochild from Martin, Tennessee on 13Nov2009 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Production, Lyrics, Melody, Originality, Most Rocking Track. Yee hah! Sounds like middle period Dylan with a Richard Thompson sensibility. Melody is hummable, and the playing is really solid. This kind of vibe doesn't usually do much for me, but the lyrics in this track elevate it for me, and make it worth the toe tap all the way to the end- which comes without stretching or wearing out its welcome. Nice work, lads. - Joel94 from Frenchtown, New Jersey on 13Nov2009 Extra Credit: Originality. Catchy I like this. The song is very catchy and feel good- especially the chorus. Great production sound as well. - JPSuper from Australia on 12Nov2009 Extra Credit: Production, Lyrics, Melody, Beat, Mood, Best Feel Good Track. Nicw work This track reminds me of Galway Girl by Steve Earle. Weird lyrics but they work with the beat. I guess that goes hand in hand with the melody. Take it to the mountain top. - PanchoyLefty from Erlanger, Kentucky on 10Nov2009 Extra Credit: Production. Cool tune! I'll join that parade anyday. This one grabbed my attention immediately with the tinny banjo lead and the bass drum. Very distinctive. Love the instrumentation, the over-all feel, the production, the vocals. Very strong performances and production. Fun to sing with the chorus -- I bet this goes over really well live. My only complaints involve the lyrics -- I can't make out a lot of them, and the ones I can don't add up to much. They're not bad, but they're not up to the level of the music. The chorus is hooky, but it doesn't have much to do with the verses. Still, I like this quite a bit. Over-all: Great, unique sound -- spirited performances. An excellent track, with average lyrics. I'll certainly check out more of your music. - secretshopper1 from Victorville, California on 10Nov2009 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars, Production, Beat, Mood, Originality. Red Dirt Country Sounds like a lot of the music I hear around Oklahoma. Check out this band called Turnpike Troubadours, and the song Bosier City. Sounds a lot like this song. http://www.myspace.com/turnpiketr - StillwaterMusic from Stillwater, Oklahoma on 10Nov2009 instrumental intro -very nice lyrics were fine - chorus was a bit repetitive - follow me up likes the syncopated melody and the happy approach to the whole song I usually don't do the who do I sound like but this song did remind me of some of the Band's early tunes - not sure how that helps or hurts - but overall a nice simple song might try something a bit different with the chorus but it is probably okay the way it is - meeklibrarian from Martin, Tennessee on 4Nov2009 Big chorus is a winner This song's big chorus, reminiscent of a call-and-answer hymn, makes this song a hit. The lyrics have a work-song quality to them that's a hallmark of good Americana music and I can certainly see myself singing this as a way to pass the time during some manual labor-type task. The vocalist has a nice Bob Dylan quality to his voice that is perfectly suited for the music; it doesn't sound pretentious or put on but quite natural and organic. The melody is catchy (I'm still singing it as I write this after the song has finished!). As for who you sound like, Old Crow Medicine Show springs to mind, as well as a bit of Flogging Molly, although not so Irish as the latter. :) - snallygasters from Baltimore, Maryland on 4Nov2009 Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Lyrics, Melody. |
